KYC Commodore, Ed Zehr:
- Commodore Ed Zehr called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.
- Guests and new members were introduced.
Yeoman, Nancy Barge:
- Reading of the minutes was waived.
Vice Commodore, Val Gower:
- There are 105 members in good standing.
- A list of members is available.
- Membership cards are being handed out.
Purser, Ann Hosti:
- A little more than $12,000 is in the Kwaj Community Bank.
- The Bank of Guam account has been closed.
- Ship’s Store revenues have been approximately $2,000 since January 1, 2005.
- A contribution was made to the Hope Haven in memory of Ed Zehr’s mother.
- Ed Zehr reported that the Small Boat Haul Out Fund in the Bank of Guam contains approximately $3,000, but the signatories on the account are unknown. It was suggested that Floyd Corder or Dave Goulet might have relevant information.
Ship's Store report, Jeff Griswold:
- A variety of new items have just been received and are selling well.
Race Chairman, Bruce Premo:
- Four boats; Felix, Moonshine, Indigo and Chulita, came out for the latest race. They placed in that order.
- The next race is on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8th. This will be a short race with ladies in charge. Grilled hamburgers and hotdogs will be served afterwards.
Cruise Chairman, Mike Turner:
- Mike is working on coordinating the ROI Regatta, which will be held May 29 to 31.
- The Roi Yacht Club has renovated the Parrot Head Club and is supporting the event.
- Mike has negotiated procedures for entry of visiting boats.
- Mike will provide Roi KPD with a list of participating boats. When arriving boats are within 3 miles, they must radio Roi KPD on channel 12 and provide the skipper’s name and names of people on board, and inquire about RF hazards. Boats may then anchor without processing through Entry/Exit at the Small Boat Marina. After anchoring, the skipper should go ashore and present a crew list to KPD at the airport.
- Mike provided anchoring information and mentioned that getting housing on Roi may be a problem.
- Jim Wilhelmi reported that the June 1 mission may complicate transportation plans for those returning to Kwaj by air.
- Dave Dethlefsen will post the above information on the KYC Web site.
Old Business:
- Val Gower reported that the Coconut Cup Regatta was great fun. Five people from Kwajalein attended. The Majuro people were very generous, put together several well-organized social functions, but were a little disappointed that so few people from Kwajalein had attended. Val encouraged the club members to participate in larger numbers next year. She also extended an invitation to the people of Majuro to visit Kwajalein.
- Ed posted a club cleanup list and requested that more members volunteer.
New Business:
- The boat lot and shed assigned to KYC is in disrepair with several violations. A discussion was held regarding the issue. A motion was presented to demolish the shed and retain the lot. The motion was approved.
- Major Coffey of Host Nations Office enquired as to whether KYC would be interested in supporting the May 9th visit by the Marshallese Jabwa Dancers and outrigger canoes. Personal Floatation Devices, a ferry service to the canoes and a beach crew are needed. Participation was approved.
- Earth Day is Monday the 25th. Island clubs are invited to join the beach cleanup effort starting at 9:00 AM Monday. Prizes will be given. Jeff Griswold invited interested parties to join him in organizing a KYC group to participate.
- Best wishes were extended to PCSing club members Bill Heffernan and Cheryl and Harry Hale.
- Thanks to Mike Turner and Trudy Butler for providing BBQ’d ribs.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:49 PM.
