The Kwajalein Yacht Club met on January 29, 2005 at 7:00pm
KYC Commodore, Ed Zehr:
Commodore Ed Zehr being off island, the meeting was called to order by Vice Commodore, Val Gower.
Yeoman, Nancy Barge:
Reading of minutes from the December, 2004 meeting.
Vice Commodore, Val Gower:
Visitors and new members were welcomed.
Membership drive is in progress. Member renewal forms have been mailed and many people have responded. Renewal forms are available in the club house or from Val Gower.
Purser, Ann Hosti:
Club is solvent with a balance of ~$8,000.00. Club finances are in the process of being transferred to the new bank.
Ship's Store Report, Alan & Marge Metelak:
There are new T-shirt colors available and a good selection of adult size small. Sandy Herrington will be replacing Alan and Marge Metelak. Volunteers were requested to assist Sandy with Ship’s Store duties. Thanks to Shigeko Jackson for her help in selling $500 worth of T-shirts to the visiting Japanese.
Race Chairs, Bruce Premo:
Absent. Next race will be February 6th. Skipper’s meeting at 1:00 PM at the small boat mariner.
Cruise Chairman of the Month, Mike Turner:
Absent.
OLD BUSINESS
No Old Business was discussed.
NEW BUSINESS
Commodore’s Ball is March 6th. This is the yacht club’s annual formal event providing an opportunity to dress up and recognize the previous year’s committee members. Volunteers interested in organizing the event were requested to contact Val Gower. Melissa Dethlefsen will design posters and tickets. Theme ideas were requested.
Coconut Cup: Rod Godfrey gave a brief history and description of the annual Coconut Cup event. He has had difficulty getting details from Majuro. He will inform members are soon as details are available.
Fifth Annual Spring Break Music Festival and Chili Cook off April 3rd: Jim Stepchew has requested volunteers to help with the event. A chili cook off chairman is needed. Anyone interested should contact Jim.
The next meeting is February 19th. This will be a special catered event with live music to honor long time yacht club member and former commodore, Nate Jackson.
Chris Lykins announced that his Cal 20 is for sale. Interested buyers contact Chris Lykins or Kevin Ferguson.
Nate Jackson reminded everyone that his boat is for sale.
Thanks to Beverly Wong and Chris Lykins for providing the main course for dinner.
